Summer in Bloomington and the Twin Cities means the return of Sommerfest, the Minnesota Orchestra’s annual summertime musical celebration. For three weeks, music-lovers enjoy dozens of Sommerfest concerts held in and around the Minnesota Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. The spectacular shows feature works by composers such as Gershwin, Beethoven and Mozart for those with a love for the classics. A variety of guest artists such as Pink martini, Andrew Litton and Clint Black to the Minnesota Sommerfest help round out the season’s shows.

Sommerfest gets off to a rousing start with the annual Macy’s Day of Music, a round-the-clock musical event that spans 24 hours and features 300 performers on half a dozen different stages. Minneapolis’s Sommerfest has been a part of the Twin Cities music scene since 1980.

The Minnesota Orchestra, which has been in existence since 1903, is under the musical direction of Finnish conductor Osmo Vänskä.
