Minnesota Saints Hockey and Minnesota Stars Hockey
Minnesota boasts two PowerHockey™ wheelchair hockey teams: the Minnesota Stars and Minnesota Saints. Both teams belong to the U.S. Electric Wheelchair Hockey Association (U.S. EWHA).
The Minnesota Stars were the first-ever wheelchair hockey team in the state, established in 1993. The Minnesota Stars team also was the first North American wheelchair hockey team to travel to Europe and compete.
The Minnesota Saints have made three trips to the PowerHockey™ Cup Tournament in 2001, 2004 and 2006. During its most recent visit, held in Calgary, the Minnesota Saints Hockey team placed fourth.
The adaptive sport of PowerHockey™ is open to males and females who use power wheelchair. PowerHockey rules follow regular hockey rules but are modified to fit the needs of electric wheelchair users. The sport usually is played on a basketball court.
