As soon as the thermometer says 50 degrees, Minnesotans dig out their shorts and head out in search of the nearest patio. Our warm season lasts from April to October and we take full advantage of it with our collection of outdoor courtyards and rooftops. Here’s our short list of the best patios in Bloomington!

Cedar + Stone, Urban Table
The only outdoor patio at Mall of America is at JW Marriott’s Cedar + Stone, Urban Table. Located in the new north expansion, Cedar + Stone’s sophisticated ambiance and always-burning fire pit beckons the worn-out shopper in need of a cocktail. Pull up a chair, then enjoy a lovely lunch on the patio while you dine on dishes like butternut squash risotto and crispy brussels sprouts.
Urbana Craeft Kitchen
A Bloomington hidden gem, Urbana Craeft Kitchen’s outdoor patio is one of the best in the city. Hyatt Regency Bloomington-Minneapolis’ on-site restaurant looks out onto Bloomington Central Park,the Blue Line light rail, and the South Loop business district. Snack on Scandinavian-inspired apps like stuffed lefse and buffalo ballen while you enjoy a night out on the chill patio.
Cowboy Jack’s
Cowboy Jack’s is a Twin Cities favorite for a reason. The excellent happy hour deals, bustling patio, and cornhole boards make this Western-themed restaurant a fun spot to spend a weekday evening. Plus, their yummy bar food is just what you need after a few hours of imbibing in the sunshine – think jalapeno cheese curds, melty queso, and a selection of flatbreads.
Hazelwood Food + Drink
Hazelwood Food + Drink is the new kid on the block but is already making a big impression in Bloomington. The creative and modern menu ranges from decadent (a cheese-curd topped burger) to healthy (salmon and fresh veggie bowls). Hazelwood’s side patio has a direct view of Mall of America, and is a great spot to get some fresh air after a shopping marathon.
Tip: After dinner, walk next door to the bar at AC Hotel Bloomington Mall of America and order the house specialty, a Spanish-inspired gin and tonic (they also have a patio with a fireplace!)
Hazelwood Food and Drink. Lela
Sheraton Bloomington Hotel’s Lela Restaurant has earned rave reviews for its wine pairings and creative appetizers. During the warmer months, Lela’s patio opens up for guests to enjoy a delicious Italian meal in the fresh air. If you stop by on a weekend morning, trying the brunch buffet is a must: the extravagant menu includes everything from seafood paella to beef empanadas.
Lucky's 13 Pub
Lucky’s 13 Pub is the home of free popcorn, Bloody Mary flights, and frickles (fried pickles). The neighborhood gathering spot offers friendly service and a large patio for summer nights. Lucky’s traditional Minnesota entrees - walleye, wild rice, and Juicy Lucys aplenty - paired with its sports bar atmosphere will please families, couples, and groups of friends looking for a fun night out.
Ciao Bella
A longtime favorite of visitors and locals alike, Ciao Bella has been serving fresh Italian dishes since 1997. Ciao Bella’s beautiful patio has a garden-like feel along with an outdoor bar so you can quickly grab a cocktail while waiting for your table. This classy establishment is known for housemade pasta entrees such as linguini di mare, tortiglioni rossa, and lasagna. Bon appetit!
Willy McCoy’s
Is a discount still a discount if it’s running 24/7? According to Willy McCoy’s, the answer is yes: most beers and well drinks are always “two for one”. This Prohibition-themed tavern/restaurant has both a rooftop and patio with seating for upwards of 70 people. In addition to nightly food specials, Willy McCoy’s menu features fun twists on traditional bar food staples like flatbreads, burgers, and mac and cheese.
